Insurance in a bid to re-brand the broker, according to a filing with the SEC.

Shareholders will vote on the name change at the broker's AGM on May 23.

The filing states: "The board has concluded that a change in the name of the company would be a beneficial step to the furtherance of the company's efforts over the course of the past 18 months to attract new and experienced senior management and to improve the marketing of its products and services.'' Stirling Cooke has struggled in recent years and changed its management a year ago.

Its shares traded on Wednesday at $1.49, down one cent from Wednesday. Its 52 week high is $3.18 and its low is 56 cents.
