Opportunites `are endless' on the Fringe

The Ministry of Tourism and the Department of Cultural Affairs have announced a new joint venture called the "Festival Fringe''.

The initiative was introduced at a press conference at the National Gallery yesterday.

Tourism Minister David Allen and Minister of Development, Opportunity & Government Services Terry Lister each made a statement on behalf of their respective Ministries.

The programme will take place at the same time as the Bermuda Festival of Performing Arts and will feature the talents of local artists.

The Department of Cultural Affairs is inviting musicians, artists and actors to contact the department so that efforts can be made to organise and advertise the event and the groups taking part.

Restaurants and clubs on the Island are also expected to take part, creating special pre- and post-show menus and promoting performers.

And visual artists are expected to showcase their sculptures, paintings and other creations at exhibitions.

Mr. Allen said: "The opportunities are endless.'' The idea behind the Festival Fringe is to show that Bermuda boasts a rich amalgam of cultural, historical and ecological experiences.

All those interested in participating should contact the Department of Cultural Affairs 292-9447 by July 31.

On the Fringe: The creation of `Festival Fringe' was yesterday announced by (L-R) Amanda Outerbridge, Tourism Minister David Allen, Development Minister Terry Lister, and Geoffrey Moore of the Bermuda Festival.
