Drivers jumping the Palmetto Road red light near the incinerator now face a clampdown.

Impatient motorists were causing frustration and anger for fellow road users at the other end of the road works, said Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale.

"Sometimes it means they are left waiting until their light changes to red again,'' he said.

"It can go on and on until there is total disregard for the lights.'' Sgt. Dale added: "We will be monitoring these lights throughout the day and particularly at rush hours. So please don't get caught out.''
