The appointment, announced yesterday, was made by Governor Lord Waddington.

He acted on the recommendation of Chief Justice the Hon. Sir James Astwood.

Mr. Judge leaves Bermuda on December 1. His replacement will take up her new duties the following day.

Born on April 8, 1952, Miss Simmons went to Berkeley Institute and the Universities of Maryland and Buckingham.

She was called to the Bar in England and in Bermuda in 1984.

Miss Simmons has been in practice as a sole practitioner, and more recently, with the firm of Lord, Simmons and Warner.

During the last year she has often acted as a magistrate.
