White Mountains Re is to offer and sell approximately $400 million of its senior notes due 2017 in an offering exempt from the registration requirements of the Securities Act of 1933.

The group intends to use the net proceeds from the offering to pay a cash distribution to its parent White Mountains Insurance Group.
