West celebrates first professional victory
Eric West's superb start to the season just got better as the Bermudian celebrated his first win as a pro on the Moonlightgolf.com Tour in Florida.
The 24-year-old golfer shot a three-under-par 69 yesterday to finish in a three-way tie for first at the Windermere Country Club, in a strong field including PGA Tour player Kelley Sellers.
West was steady off the tee throughout, finding 16 greens in regulation and birdied six holes.
"It feels pretty good!" he said. "As the saying goes, 'when you're up its never good as it seems, and when you're down it feels like you'll never be up again.'"
West probably could not have summed up his maiden pro win any better as he set the 7,000 -yard lay-out ablaze on the front nine before coming slightly undone with the putter heading to the clubhouse.
West, who qualified for the Tour de las Americas this month, missed a birdie at the par five, 16th and then carded additional bogeys at 17 and 18, leaving him tied at the top with Japan's Mac Takahashi and Sellers in the one-day shootout.
"It was windy but I played well. I had a putt from five -feet on 16 to go six under for the day after hitting at par five in two, but I missed the putt," he said. "
Overall, West was pleased with his round but acknowledged he could've done better.
"Even though I won, shooting a 66 would've been my lowest score in a tournament, which is what I was aiming for," he said.
"My game has really come together lately and I'm becoming a more complete player."
