Much to improve on says Village coach Jennings

North Village head coach Elliott Jennings played down his side's chances of winning the title despite watching them demolish league new boys Ireland Rangers 4-1 at Bernard Park yesterday afternoon.

A brace apiece from Keith Jennings and Devaun (Sammy) DeGraff ensured Village made it maximum points from their first two games, having beaten Devonshire Cougars 2-1 on their own patch last Sunday, with skipper Sean Brangman replying late on for the visitors.

But Jennings was a hard man to please, calling on his team to perform for the whole 90 minutes after letting Rangers back into the game at the end.

"The first 70 minutes was not bad, but there is still a lot to improve on," he said.

"In the last 15 minutes I started to look at other players for the future and there are a lot more players to come in and a lot more competition, so we are trying to build some rhythm with the squad we have got at the moment.

"But, as whole, I think the whole 11 did fine and I think they enjoyed it a little bit and that is the key, as long as they are getting something out of the game. I like to see them come off with a smile.

"There is a long way to go and football is a funny game. We have got two wins, but we have got to keep going on. Things are just getting interesting now."

The supporters had barely taken their seats before Village took the lead in the first minute courtesy of Keith Jennings finishing off a one-two with Ralph Bean and they doubled their advantage on the half-hour after Vernon Tankard teed up DeGraff to curl the ball past the outstretched fingertips of Ricky Turner in the Rangers goal.

DeGraff doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time when he latched onto a long throw by Keith Jennings to sweep the ball home and the rout was completed on 69 minutes as Jemeiko Jennings crossed for his namesake Keith to fire in. But the visitors to their credit fought back and snatched a consolation through Brangman's swivel and shot into the top corner.
