Insurance on top

Insurance and transportation was up while banks were down on the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday.

BF&M Ltd. benefited the most as their share price soared 50 cents (2.6 percent) to close at $19.50, with 1,600 shares traded.

Bermuda Container Line Ltd. also boosted their rising stock by five cents (0.3 percent) per share to finish on $14.60. A total of 100 shares were traded.

Butterfield Bank, however, went the other way, losing five cents (0.3 percent) off their share value to close on $19.35, as 18,798 shares traded.

Overall, the Index dropped 1.09 points (0.02 percent) to finish down at 5,092.79, with a total of 20,498 shares worth 395,354.50 changing hands.

The BSX Insurance Index inched up 0.90 percent to 1,251.65.
