Low sulphur diesel fuel coming

Motorists are to reduce their impact on the environment with the introduction of Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD).

The Department of Environmental Protection yesterday announced ULSD is to replace Low Sulphur Diesel (LSD) at the Island's fuel stations. Suppliers Rubis (Shell) and Esso are to import the new fuel — a requirement for diesel vehicles manufactured from 2007 but which can also power those produced pre-2006.

The price per litre is expected to be the same.

Environment and Sport Minister El James said: "The introduction of ULSD will ensure that all diesel vehicles in Bermuda produce less harmful emissions, to the benefit of Bermuda residents, our visitors and our natural environment.

"I am also happy to report that many parts of Government were involved in industry consultation, including the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

"he Bermuda Government applauds the local oil companies for their voluntary introduction of the new fuel."
