Cyclist,–78, dies
A 78-year-old cyclist died in hospital after apparently falling off his pedal bike during his weekly ride around Harrington Sound.
Patrick James Mayers was found in a semi-conscious state near the junction of South Road and Tucker's Town Road by two passing motorists at about 8 a.m. on Sunday.
His wife Maria took him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning.
A Police spokesman said the cause of death was not yet known. Father-of-three Mr. Mayers, of Smith's, was believed to have gone out for his usual cycle ride around the Harrington Sound Road area at about 7 a.m. Sunday.
Anyone who saw him in that area between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. is asked to call P.c. Roger Fox at Southside Police Station on 293-2222.
