Steede praises team-mates
Bermuda's 2010 World Cup qualifying bid received a welcome shot in the arm courtesy of last night's historical win - the Island's first over a Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit.
After absorbing all Colorado Rapids could throw their way the home team struck twice early in the second-half and then weathered some late pressure to pull off a stunning win they thoroughly deserved.
"Colorado is a professional team and so to get this result is certainly a big boost for our confidence," said victorious Bermuda skipper Kwame Steede who headed his team's first goal. "They came to play and didn't lay down and for us to get that victory as a team I must congratulate my players."
Bermuda started slowly but shifted gears in the latter stages of the first -half as the momentum began to swing in the home team's favor.
"We were playing a professional team and so we couldn't go out guns blazing in first 15 to 20 minutes," Steede explained. "We more or less let them come at us and were able to absorb the pressure before we eventually got into our own rhythm. And it worked out for us in the end."
The Rapids pulled one back in the latter stages of the match and piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser. But on this night the 'Gombey Warriors' were not to be denied a second victory on home soil in three months.
"Defensively I thought we lapsed during last ten to 15 minutes of the game," Steede said. "But it was a good team performance and I think more or less we played as a team throughout."
Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo also hailed Bermuda's stunning victory that put a dent in his team's professional pride.
"I thought Bermuda were very professional and you have to give them credit," the former Haiti coach said. "Bermuda were very organised and they played hard and so you have to give them credit for that.
"We made two silly mistakes and Bermuda made us pay. But it was a good game and the fans were treated to some very attractive football."
