Heritage names new chairman

Heritage Managing Agency plc, a member of Bermuda-based Argo Group International Holdings Ltd. yesterday named David Spiller as its new chairman.

Mr. Spiller succeeds John Kavanaugh, whose term of office as chairman concluded with Argo Group's acquisition of Heritage in May this year.

Mr. Spiller, 52, has served as president and chief executive officer of Guy Carpenter and as a member of the organisation's executive committee and management board since January 2006. As CEO, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Guy Carpenter worldwide.

Before joining Guy Carpenter, Mr. Spiller was CEO of Benfield Ltd. in London. He was responsible for all business and offices outside of the US and oversaw specialty lines. Mr. Spiller came to Benfield through its merger with Greig Fester, which he joined in 1979 and served as CEO.

Mark Watson, Argo Group president and CEO, said: "I am very pleased that David has agreed to take on the role of chairman of Heritage. Under his guidance and leadership, we look forward to maximizing Heritage's potential for profitable growth and development."

Mr. Spiller's appointment is subject to receipt of Lloyd's and FSA approval.
