Rams and Colts seek to make amends in cups

Friendship and Shield Cups take the floor at Devonshire Rec. tonight with Southampton Rangers taking on Somerset Eagles in the opener while North Village Rams face Devonshire Colts in the nightcap.

The Friendship encounter between Rams and Colts is a tale of two teams looking to shake off the misery of their respective league results over the weekend.

Devonshire Colts, who are attempting to shrug off their 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Devonshire Cougars last Friday, know they have their work cut out when they return to the scene of their latest loss.

But Ray Jones' men can take solace from their league victory over the Rams earlier this term.

Meanwhile, North Village will be looking to make amends for their league slip-up against Boulevard in which they relinquished a 2-0 lead in a game they were expected to win.

Rams talisman Ralph Bean believes it is important Rams don't let their title challenge interfere with their assault on the Friendship trophy.

"We have to put our league quest aside for the moment and turn our eyes to this cup game," he said.

"Time is running out to lift another piece of silverware, and although we have one (Dudley Eve), that is not enough. We are still in this competition as well as the league so we will take one game at a time."

In the opener, promotion hopefuls Eagles and Rangers take to the field knowing the winner will not only be assured of a finals berth, but also deal a psychological blow to the loser heading down the stretch of the season.

Rangers have defeated their western rivals twice already this season, so confidence will no doubt be on their side.
