Training ace joins Perozzi fight camp

Big fight: Teresa Perozzi

Contender Teresa Perozzi will be in the best condition of her career when she steps into the ring with undefeated Natasha Ragosina, according to her US matchmakers.

Seconds To Go Boxing are sending their 'own man' to Bermuda to oversee Perozzi's preparation and ensure no stone is left unturned in her quest to claim Ragosina's prized scalp.

Experienced trainer Charles Romano will spend two weeks refining the technique of the Bermudian brawler who fights Ragosina, 31, in a 'winner takes all' seven-belt showdown in Germany on March 15.

"Charles Romano has been in the boxing game for 25-years," said George Cuozzo, president of New Jersey-based Seconds To Go Boxing.

"Teresa will have never experienced a preparation programme quite like this before. There's no doubt she will be in the best shape of her career. Charles has been watching tapes of her last fight and will tweak and adjust her technique.

"He's somebody I'm comfortable with and he's worked with many top boxers such as super middleweight world champion Danny Green.

"I feel a lot more relaxed now I know he will be working with Teresa. This is the biggest fight of her career and it's vital everything is geared towards her winning.

"Currently she's working on her conditioning and toning up, but she will be sparring with Charles next week."

Perozzi, 34, will travel to New Jersey at the start of next month to apply the finishing touches to her training regime with Romano. From there she will head to Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, where she will take on Ragosina in her 'own backyard'.

The German-based Russian is widely regarded as the top active women's boxer in the world and the number of belts on the line indicates how confident she is of defeating underdog Perozzi. Ragosina's home advantage further stacks the odds in her favour.

Should Perozzi pull off a surprise victory she will claim the WIBF, GBU, WBA, WBC, WIBA, IWBF and WIBC titles.

She first came to Cuozzo's attention during her bout against Asa Sandell last September, which ended in a controversial draw.

Her dust-up with Ragosina will be her first fight under his management.

Perozzi, who works as a masseuse, is hoping Government funding will help cover the costs of her fight as she will require time off work while she prepares.
