Perozzi's seven-belter

Teresa Perozzi

Teresa Perozzi will fight undefeated Natasha Ragosina in a 'winner takes all' seven-belt showdown in Germany, the Royal Gazette can reveal.

The career-defining clash will mark Perozzi's debut with US matchmakers Seconds To Go Boxing and will be held in Ragosina's 'own backyard' in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, on March 15.

Ragosina is widely regarded as the top women's boxer in the world and the amount of titles at stake is an indication how confident she is of defeating underdog Perozzi (pictured left).

But Seconds To Go Boxing president George Cuozzo is adamant the Bermudian brawler has the punching power to "close the show" and remove the decision from the judges' jurisdiction.

"I believe Teresa will win this fight and when she does she can call herself the best women's boxer in the world," he said. "Hopefully a certain boxer called Laila Ali will then come out of retirement.

"Ragosina's the favourite - no doubt - it's in her backyard and she's undefeated. Teresa will have to damage her, unfortunately cut her, and make her work every second of the fight.

"If she can stop Ragosina then all well and good, because nobody ever lost a fight after knocking an opponent out."

Perozzi will claim the WIBF, GBU, WBA, WBC, WIBA, IWBF and WIBC belts if she defeats German-based Russian Ragosina, who has won all 16 fights of her fights - 11 by knock-out.

New Jersey-based Cuozzo had planned to ease Perozzi back into the ring with a bout in Bermuda, but said the magnitude of the match-up against Ragosina, 31, was too much of a lure to turn down.

"Major discussions took place before agreeing to this fight but in the end the numbers added up," he said. "Teresa really wanted it and I really wanted it. She's very excited about the fight and we'll make sure she's in the best possible condition.

"We're under no illusions how tough this will be, it will be a real mission. They're sure Ragosina will win and that's why they've laid seven belts on the line. But Teresa can beat her and the possibilities will then be endless. She will bring a huge amount of notoriety to Bermuda."

Perozzi, who works as a masseuse, is hoping Government funding will help cover the costs of her fight as she will require time off work while she prepares for the biggest night of her career.

The 34-year-old has contacted the Government and Cuozzo has faxed them a letter concerning the matter. He is keen for the matter to be addressed as soon as possible so his client can focus completely on the task ahead.

"We're waiting for the Government's response about sponsorship and we hope it will be favourable. Teresa's a real asset to the Island and it's important she doesn't worry about matters outside the ring."

Perozzi first came to Cuozzo's attention during her bout against his Asa Sandell last September, which ended in a controversial draw.
