Marshall runs PB in New York

Lamont Marshall returned to the Island with a personal best under his belt after running New York's Fifth Avenue Mile.

The 23-year-old posted a time of four minutes and 15 seconds, finishing seventh in the Invitational Road Mile Championships through the Big Apple's most famous thoroughfare at the weekend.

Marshall, who won the Annual Labour Day Road Race, made his bow in the Championship division. He achieved promotion after reigning supreme in the open category in 2005.

His father Larry Sr. said his son's PB was a sign of his "considerable strength" after running the first 400 yards in around 60 seconds, before maintaining a steady speed throughout the remainder of the race.

Stephen Chemlany of Kenya won the Championship race with a time of 4:05.6. While American mile record-holder Alan Webb won the professional race in 3:52.7, beating defending champion Kevin Sullivan of Canada.
