Special maps give detailed election breakdowns

Constituency 3 — St. David's — had more newly registered voters and the highest voter turnout on the island, according to newly compiled data.

AG Research, a software consulting firm, compiled election data from the Parliamentary Registrar for Tuesday night and the election in 2003, into colour coded maps of the island.

The maps show more voters and turnout for the hotly contested race between the United Bermuda Party's Suzann Roberts-Holshouser and the Progressive Labour Party's Lovitta Foggo than anywhere else.

Shawn Crockwell, the opposition campaign chairman, said the party would not contest the results, saying "the people have spoken", but they hoped the Parliamentary Election Act would be reviewed.

Mr. Crockwell said: "We said prior to the election we were concerned with the number of voters in the constituencies and we had issues with people who we know did not live in the constituency.

"We are not crying foul. People came out to express their will. They voted for the government, but the Parliamentary Election Act should be reviewed."

Before the election concern had been raised by Mrs. Roberts-Holshouser that she was stopped from canvassing in government emergency housing.

In 2003, however, she won the seat with just one percent more of the vote than Danvers Seymour and the constituency was widely viewed as marginal.

St. David's was not the only area to experience a jump in newly registered voters, according to the data compiled by Kevin Mayall, president of AG Research, Bermuda.

Two other constituency's showed a similar increase in registrants — 30 where Zane DeSilva defeated David Dodwell and 32 where Randolph Horton maintained his seat over Charlie Swan.

Both of these had somewhere between 151 to 350 more registered voters than in the last election.

Southampton East Central, which elected Mr. DeSilva, also saw between 151 to 225 more voters turnout.

The only other constituency to see a change in both numbers was St. George's South where the UBP's Donte Hunt, defeated PLP's Philip Perinchief.

This area saw between 151 and 225 more voters turnout and between 101 and 150 more newly registered voters since 2003.
