Dunkley slams Minister's World Cup ads

Opposition Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley slammed Government Ministers for profiling themselves at the public's expense during the World Cup cricket.

Ten Government Ministries have each given $12,000 sponsorship to Government MP Glenn Blakeney's Inter-Island Communications company after it secured exclusive rights to broadcast pictures to Bermuda.

Mr. Dunkley said Ministers were constantly popping up with 'Good luck Bermuda' messages which he branded as self-publicity as the players would not see them as they would be busy playing their matches.

"The taxpayer is paying their hard-earned dollars into revenue which advertises Government ministers.

"They are not advertising Government services, they are just raising their profile before the election."

And he said Government should have paid for the TV rights so everyone in Bermuda could see the matches rather than have to fork out an extra $200 for the World Cup cricket package.
