Oil tycoon John Deuss is no longer on bail but remains a suspect in an international fraud investigation, Dutch prosecutors have confirmed.

The Royal Gazette published a story in good faith on Monday which contained a comment given to us on January 16 this year by a spokeswoman for the Dutch Public Prosecution stating that Mr. Deuss was still on bail.

The spokeswoman, Valentine Hoen, told us on Monday that Mr. Deuss ceased being on bail following a court hearing in Holland on November 22 last year.

She said: "I just heard that Mr. Deuss is no longer on bail. It has been decided by the district court in Arnhem, in chambers, on 22 November 2007, so there has been a court hearing.

"However, he is still (a) suspect in the investigation. Nothing has changed about that."
