Public invited to discuss future of Bermuda cricket

Plans for a proposed 20/20 League next season will be high on the agenda at today's Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) open forum at Devonshire Recreation Club.

The BCB have again invited members of the general public to attend the forum where they will have the opportunity to voice any concerns over the current state of the sport and make recommendations that will help take local cricket to the next level.

In addition to a proposed 20/20 League, the Board's beleaguered Two-Day and 50-over Leagues will also be key topics for discussion as local cricket's governing body continue their efforts to encourage fans to come out in throngs in support of local cricket. BCB technical committee chairman Allen Richardson, national coach Gus Logie, top umpire Roger Dill, national team skipper Irving Romaine and former national team skippers Gladstone (Sad) Brown and Clay Smith will all be present to facilitate the meeting.

The Board's newly formed technical committee serves as an expert consultant to the BCB on all cricket playing issues and was purposely set up to explore ways and means to improve all aspects of cricket in Bermuda.

Devonshire Rec. was also the venue for the BCB's first open forum held last September which was well attended.

"The forum will give the cricketing fraternity an opportunity to share their ideas and concerns in reference to cricket. The committee will then begin a process of prioritising concerns and ideas and set recommendations before the Cricket Board for implementation. The Committee will be utilising the information gathered from this forum to assist its efforts in improving the overall game," committee chairman Richardson explained.

"We are making an appeal to and encouraging all persons with cricket at heart to come to Devonshire Rec. and be a part of this open forum in a positive manner to take our sport to new heights."

Today's forum will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with lunch to be served.

• West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have extended an invitation for Bermuda to compete in an Under-15 Championship to be held in the Caribbean next April involving all Test-playing nations and some of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) top Associate members.

The West Indies last hosted the event in 1999 with Gus Logie - Bermuda's current national coach - coaching the young Windies all the way to the title.

In addition to Bermuda, provisions have also been made to have Canada, Kenya and a pick of the ICC Associate members participate in next year's tournament that will be played throughout the Caribbean.
