80-run loss in second warm-up
Jamaica Development Squad 148/2, Bermuda 68 all out
(Bermuda lose by 80 runs)
Bermuda's warm-up preparations for the Stanford 20/20 took another turn for the worse with a crushing defeat in the hands of Jamaica Development Squad.
Herbie Bascome's young crop were skittled out for a paltry 68 in reply to the host's 148 for two from their allotted 20 overs at Melbourne Cricket Club, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Jamaica Development Squad won the toss and were well restricted by Bermuda's bowlers with spinner Dwayne Leverock the pick of the attack. But the visitors inexperienced batting line-up was cruelly exposed once David Hemp, Irving Romaine and Lionel Cann all fell cheaply.
Skipper Romaine pointed towards Bermuda's poor pre-tournament preparations following their second successive warm-up defeat.
"I felt we bowled well on a small pitch to restrict them to just 148 runs," said Romaine. "But then both myself and Lionel had suspect lbw decisions and it sort of threw the other guys to the wolves. It exposed them to a very good bowling attack.
"You have to remember these guys are in the midst of their competitive season, while the only practice we've had is at BHS gym with our bowlers running in off five yards.
"We have a very young and inexperienced team and it says it all that David Hemp only knew four players. But it's a learning curve for our young guys. A team like Jamaica can probably enter about three teams in the Stanford 20/20 and they would all do well."
