Breaking News: Grand Slam confirmed for 2008

The US PGA Grand Slam of Golf - featuring the winners of the year's four major championships - will come to Bermuda again next year, it was confirmed today.

A two-year deal had been signed to bring the tournament to the Mid Ocean Club this year and in 2008, but there was a get-out clause allowing the PGA to pull out if it felt that Bermuda could not host the event properly.

However today the Premier confirmed that the event will come to the Island on October 14 and 15 next year.

At a press conference this morning Ewart Brown said: "The agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and the PGA of America is a two year deal. However, the agreement gives the PGA the right to move the tournament in year two if it feels Bermuda can not properly facilitate the tournament. So in many ways, this announcement means the PGA is confident that we can produce another world class golf tournament that will once again be televised around the world.

"Before coming to Bermuda this year, the Grand Slam of Golf had never been played outside the United States. Now it will be two consecutive years outside the U.S.. We hope to keep the PGA coming here for many, many years."

This year's event was won by Argentinian Angel Cabrera after a play-off with Irishman Padraig Harrington.
