Hurricane Igor: EMO issues a further advisory
The Emergency Measures Organisation has put further advisories for the public - as tropical storm force winds are forecast to begin around 4am tomorrow (Sunday, September 19.)
Public Car Park at LF Frederick Wade International Airport
The public is advised to remove their vehicles from the Airport parking lot tomorrow to avoid damage not only to their vehicles but to the terminal as vehicles can become destructive if carried away by storm surge.
Re-opening of Airport
The L.F. Frederick Wade International Airport will not re-open on Monday as the Causeway will likely still be closed to motor traffic.
Sunday Morning Church Services
The most recent wind predictions have Tropical Storm Force winds (34kts) beginning at 4am on Sunday, increasing to 50kts by 3pm. Most church services begin between 10 am and 11am, and conclude between miday and 2pm. Should the speed or intensity of the winds worsen persons leaving Church might find themselves in dangerous situations In the interest of safety, the public is encouraged to remain at home throughout the entire day on Sunday.
Road Closure
In the interest of safety, portions of the South Road in Smith’s will be closed to motor traffic from the Brown Darrell Clinic to Watch Hill Road from 10a.m. today (Saturday, September 18). Barriers and signage will be erected but area residents will not be impacted by the barriers.
The Swing Bridge
The Swing Bridge in St. George’s is currently closed and will remain closed until the hurricane has passed.
City Traffic Lights
All traffic lights outside the City of Hamilton will be shut off as of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, 19th September, 2010
Water Truckers’ Outlets
All water truckers’ outlets will be closed as of 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 18th September, 2010.
Ministry of Works and Engineering Waste Management
The Ministry of Works and Engineering advises that due to approaching Hurricane Igor, residential waste collection in the West End on Monday, September 20, has been cancelled. The public is encouraged to monitor the news agencies for updates concerning changes to waste management services following Igor.
Currently, the public can take waste directly to the Tynes Bay Public Drop-off Facility on Palmetto Road which will remain open until 7 p.m. today (Saturday). The Public Drop Off will be closed tomorrow (Sunday, September 19).
The Airport Waste Management Facility and the Marsh Folly Composting Facility will be open for normal hours of operation today (Saturday).
The Ministry of Works and Engineering asks that members of the public to heed the operational hours of the various waste management facilities and to avoid placing waste at the gates of these facilities after closure. In particular, for safe operations of the airport, it is critical to keep the areas around the Airport Waste Management Facility clear of debris.
