Clarke defends CITV

The Progressive Labour Party has blasted Opposition leader Michael Dunkley for pledging to eliminate the new Government TV station which it says is free of bias and a large cultural resource.

The party said it's the only channel in Bermuda that regularly airs educational, cultural and historical programming written of, by and for Bermudians.

Charles Clarke, PLP candidate in Hamilton West and a fan of CITV, said: "CITV has proven to be both fiercely non-partisan and a tremendous educational resource for our kids. Shows like Explore Bermuda, Bermuda's History and Black Fisherman of Bermuda highlight our culture and our history and are free of political bias.

"In an age when so many of our kids know little about Bermuda history, CITV is an invaluable educational resource.

"It simultaneously provides Bermudians who wish to hone their video production capabilities with a broadcast outlet and it educates citizens about our history, our culture, our people and our Government."

He said the channel was inexpensive to operate but the United Bermuda Party say it is a waste of money and have pledged to put the running costs towards paying for the elimination of payroll tax for those earning under $42,000 a year.
