Breaking News: Causeway to open at 7.30 p.m.

The Causeway will open at 7.30 p.m. however persons on motorbikes are advised against crossing, due to high winds.

A Government spokesperson issued an advisory this evening.

"In the overwhelming interest of public safety, the chairman of the [Emergency Measures Organisation] EMO and Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, Sen. the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch is 'strongly urging' motorists on two-wheeled vehicles, such as cycles, not to traverse the bridge, as winds in the area remain high," she stated. 

"The Causeway will continue to be monitored closely for the next few hours (until around 9.00 p.m.), during the wind's expected gradual downward trend."

It had been hoped that the Causeway would re-open at 9 a.m, today. That figure was later revised to noon and then again to 4 p.m..

The spokesperson said the Causeway would continue to be monitored for the next few hours "during the wind's expected gradual downward trend".
