Club is in the frame
In 2001 CedarBridge Academy opened up a club for teenage girls. The club is called Teen Girls in Focus (TGIF).
TGIF, which meets every two weeks, consists of over 30 members and ten teachers.
There is a pledge for girls that is recited at every meeting. Some of the topics discussed are teenage pregnancy, abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, sex, education and self-esteem.
The club also goes out into the community to help out others. They go to functions, such as football games and Agape House, and are working on including other places.
The group has plans in the near future to do a lot with younger girls and to encourage them to join TGIF when they start at CedarBridge Academy.
TGIF club members engage in many activities including sleepovers, school dances, trips and even mother's day luncheons.
Teachers are a major help in the programme and aid members in understanding what life is all about. They talk about getting education first and stress that education is key in life. Teachers tell the group they have a long time to live, so live it right.
