Swan in critical condition
Sympathy and prayers are pouring in for Dandy Town full-back Randy Swan who remains in critical but stable condition in hospital following a car crash early yesterday morning near the Southampton Rangers Sports Club on South Shore Road.
The 24-year-old Hornets player is believed to have sustained serious head injuries and remains under observation in the hospital?s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The car Swan was travelling in, a grey Renault Clio driven by 26-year-old Duval Smith, hit a station wagon after losing control attempting to negotiate a bend in the road.
?When I first heard the news I just dropped everything and went to the hospital to inform the family (Swan?s) that the club (Western Stars Sports Club) are there for them,? said Town president Cal Blankendal.
?A few players were there (at the hospital) to help do whatever needs to be done to assure the family that we are thinking about them ? especially at this time of the year when families are supposed to come together for the good of things and not separated by freak accidents or such.?
Earlier this year Swan earned himself a call to national team duty, making his debut for Bermuda in a World Cup qualifying warm-up match against Nicaragua at the National Sports Centre.
Swan also won a Premier Division league championship and a FA Cup winners medal for Hornets last season.
Swan has been plagued by injury for most of this season so far, an injury picked up during Town?s Charity Cup Final defeat to North Village last September.
The Hornets full-back sat out Town?s 1-1 stalemate against Boulevard last weekend through suspension after accumulating three yellow cards and was expected to return to the team?s line up for this Sunday?s crucial FA Cup second round clash with PHC Zebras at Southampton Oval.
Meanwhile, a very concerned Hornet coach Devarr Boyles, stated: ?Randy is a person first and so under these circumstances football is secondary.
?And so at this point in time our prayers and concerns go out to relatives, friends and loved-ones.?
