Kyme runs out of steam

Bermuda?s number one squash player Nick Kyme endured a disappointing defeat at the hands of Australian Ben Gold in the first round of qualifying at the Tennyson Fog City Open in San Francisco on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old Bermudian was two games to love up after 20 minutes on court only to run out of legs as early as the third, eventually succumbing 11-10, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 9-11.

?I don?t really have an explanation for what happened,? said a clearly upset Kyme yesterday.

?I was playing fine and feeling pretty good about things and then all of a sudden I went really flat and just could not get back into the match.

?I had opportunities to close him out in the third, fourth and fifth games but for some reason I just could not take them.

?It?s pretty disappointing because although Gold was ranked in the top 60 not so long ago, he is the sort of player I should be beating.?
