Goal-starved Lightbourne facing competition
Kyle Lightbourne's lack of goals for his new club Macclesfield Town may have prompted them to look at bringing in some more competition up front.
Lightbourne signed for the Third Division club in the summer after being released by Stoke City.
He became their highest paid player ever but since the start of the new season has been unable to open his goalscoring account.
A mixture of bad finishing and bad luck has seen the player unable to break his duck and although manager Gil Prescott has stood by him, the club has now sought to add to their firepower.
Akpo Sodje has just been handed an extended trial at Macclesfield after being released by Queens Park Rangers.
He is described as a "brute of a striker" with bags of power and natural athleticism.
With Lee Glover providing the small in the club's big and small frontline, Sodje, if he impresses, would appear to be direct competition for the Bermudian.
Prescott said: "He's a big strong lad but we will need to see him a couple of times away from home to see how he goes."
The manager said he would be seeking further players as the season progressed.
"When the time comes I'd like to move on a couple of borderline players and bring in some new faces if the money is available," he said. "There are areas we want to improve but it's all down to money. We are only two to three players away from being a very good side."
Macclesfield travel to Oxford United this evening for a league encounter.
