Just one more win

Bermuda may not even boast a women?s cricket league, but a female national team cobbled together over the course of just three months are only one win away from replicating the historic feat of their male counterparts.

Having lost their opening match to Canada on Saturday by five wickets in Victoria, British Colombia, Terry-Lyn Paynter?s girls stormed back into the three-match series yesterday by pulling off a 24-run victory.

The result means that whoever wins the final game will earn the right to be the Americas? sole representative at the 2009 Women?s World Cup in Australia.

Batting first yesterday, the Allan-Douglas-coached Bermuda team racked up 159 all out, with opener Brittney Marshall (daughter of former national team batsman Charlie Marshall) top-scoring with 86 not out.
