Skipper confident of ODI rebound

Bermuda skipper Irving Romaine is optimistic his team will rebound following the nine-wicket thrashing at the hands of Canada earlier this week.

Instead of lamenting over what could have been, Romaine took the recent Intercontinental Cup defeat all in his stride, and is confident his team will bounce back in the two upcoming ODIs against the Canadians starting on Saturday at the Toronto Cricket Club.

?Our spirits are still high after the loss and I know we were more disappointed than anything else,? Romaine said.

?But now we are going into a format that really suits us as we can play our shots in 50 overs and attack and do simple things like that.

?So the guys will be ready for the 50 overs.?

Romaine was one of four Bermuda batsmen producing good starts against Canada but failed to go on to a really big score.

Bermuda?s bowlers all bowled a reasonably good line and length, however a missed stumping and a few catches worked against them in the field.

The tourist?s field settings, at times, were also questionable.

And while Bermuda did extremely well to post a score in excess of 300 runs against a very disciplined Canadian attack, coach Gus Logie again stressed the importance of making the most of opportunities ? particularly playing at this level of cricket.

?I think for the most part we didn?t wilt, which was good,? he said.

?I think in the end the 588 runs represented good batting on Canada?s part and they capitalised on their chances.

?I think for us maybe in the field we missed one or two chances. But when we get opportunities we must also learn to capitalise and make the most of them.?

Bermuda will have an opportunity to redeem themselves on Saturday and next Monday when they lock horns with a Canadian team not expected to undergo any changes.

Changes are almost certain to be made to Bermuda?s squad with the likes of left-arm spinner Hasan Durham, opening bat Kwame Tucker, allrounder Malachi Jones and fast bowlers George O?Brien jr and Stefan Kelly available for selection.
