Silkmen may consider new deal for Kyle
Macclesfield boss Dave Moss has not ruled out the possibility of offering a new contract to Bermudian striker Kyle Lightbourne.
The frontman has scored in two of his last three appearances as the Silkmen try and drag themselves away from the bottom of Division Three.
Tuesday night's home loss to Hull City put a dent in those aspirations those as the club slipped into the bottom two. If they remained there at the end of the season they would be relegated to non-league football.
Boss Moss said he was not even thinking about players' contract negotiations until the club was safe from the fear of relegation.
However, there have apparently been reports circulating that Lightbourne was keen to negotiate a new deal as his contract runs out in the summer. At one point he was actually placed on the transfer list, but the club recently took him off.
"I'm not going to be discussing contracts with any player until we know we're safe from the threat of relegation," Moss told the Macclesfield Express.
"On the subject of Kyle, we know he's in his 35th year now and that he's one of the club's top earners, but that shouldn't influence any decision on whether or not he would be offered a new contract.
"If Kyle goes on to score 16 or 17 goals this season, he would prove difficult to replace, but because we're not talking new contracts yet that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be released."
Lightbourne currently has 11 goals for the season and will be looking to add to his tally when Macclesfield take on Scunthorpe United at the weekend.Meanwhile, the Football Association enquiry into an alleged altercation between Lightbourne and a fan at the Exeter City game earlier this season is still ongoing.
