Patchett kept waiting

Cyclist Lynn Patchett's Commonwealth Games hopes still hang in the balance as Bermuda Olympic Association continue to wait on a final eligibility ruling from the event's governing body.

Non-Bermudian triathletes Evan and Riaan Naude and Jamie Brown have already been told they will not be permitted to represent the Island in Melbourne under a controversial new eligibility law while gymnast Kaisey Griffith and triathlete Karen Smith had their appeals upheld by the Commonwealth Games Federation last month.

It is understood that Patchett's appeal has been delayed by a flurry of complicated correspondence between the BOA, the CGF, the Bermuda Cycling Association and the International Cycling Union over the last few weeks.

BOA vice-president Mike Cherry said yesterday that the issue would be discussed at their weekly meeting tomorrow.

But he stressed there was little that could be done until the bureaucratic process had run its course.
