Outraged over payout

As a shareholder of the Bank of Bermuda I wish to express my displeasure at the announcement of an $11 million payout to five bank executives tasked with sacking 150 employees most of whom will probably be Bermudian and, dare I say it, women.

Dear Sir,

As a shareholder of the Bank of Bermuda I wish to express my displeasure at the announcement of an $11 million payout to five bank executives tasked with sacking 150 employees most of whom will probably be Bermudian and, dare I say it, women.

There is outrage amongst bank staff and shareholders and it would be fitting for the five executives to redress this situation by announcing that their "bonuses" will be donated to deserving Bermuda charities of which there are many.

Is is possible to bring a motion at the February meeting cancelling this unjustified bonus? After all it is the shareholders who are paying these five!

Stay ? but it'll cost you

Dear Sir,

It is not the place of the Government to decide how long people can stay here ? these MPs work too hard. In order to govern the length of stay of workers and in order to gauge their value to their employers, Government should increase the cost of work permits on an annual basis i.e., after five years the cost of a work permit should be $5,000, after seven years it will be $7,500, after ten years it will be $10,000 and so on. If they want to stay, let them pay. It is not up to the Government to decide how long people should stay here; their job is to raise revenue ? period!
