I Give the PLP a `C' - MP Alan Marshall

If the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) Government could be given a political report card, Opposition MP Allan Marshall said he would give it a "C" grade.

"They're not failing in every area," he told the House of Assembly on Friday as he suggested that residents are becoming disenchanted with the Government.

"In 1998, the people gave the PLP an opportunity, which was a vote of confidence at that time," Mr. Marshall said.

"But the people of Bermuda did not give them a blank cheque."

The Telecommunications Shadow Minister called the Government's "politics of division, separation and intolerance" archaic and said the ruling party was still holding on to the past.

"Members are still caught in a time warp," he said. "People in Bermuda should not have to hear about the 30-year battle that got them here."

Mr. Marshall also said the Government was turning people off with their "name-calling", which he labelled disheartening.

"It's perhaps even happening inside the (House of Assembly) coffee room. It's disconcerting...," he said.

And, he said, the people of Bermuda wanted to live in unity, have equal opportunities and feel secure on the Island.

"...In a Bermuda they can trust," he said. "We don't think the people are getting it.

"But there is hope. The collective damage that the people of Bermuda have had to endure since 1998 have helped create a new UBP."

And, he said, the UBP represents a "rich" mix of Bermuda's citizens - something he claims is much appreciated.

"The new Bermuda is already old. The UBP's vision in for everybody."
