Group keeps finances under wraps
Teen Services has refused to divulge the cost of running its educational programme despite it's being in jeopardy of being axed.
All this week The Royal Gazette has asked officials for the financial information but the organisations' board of directors have said they will not release the figure.
On September 26, the Ministry of Health announced the school was in danger of closing due to lack of funding.
Government provides Teen Services with an annual grant of $380,000. This paper understands the cost of operating the agency is around $500,000.
And while she made efforts to seek the financial information from her board, Teen Services director Michelle Wade-Johnson said the agency's board of directors would not comply with this paper's request.
She also clarified that Teen Services is not run by the Government.
"Teen Services is a private, non-profit organisation which receives a Government grant to run its services," she said.
"We're not Government."
Mrs. Wade-Johnson said while the directors did not offer a specific reason why, they stood firm in their decision not to release the figures. But she was adamant the agency was not trying to conceal anything.
"We have nothing to hide, but we are an agency that requires help," she said.
When asked if there was any change in the school's fate, she simply said: "Negotiations are still going on. I don't have any final outcome."
And she continued to praise her staff for working under pressure.
"They're doing what they have to do. It's as if nothing's happened."
