The Catholic church is seeking planning approval to build 16 new graves in St. George?s.

Bishop Robert J. Kurtz said the new graves are needed because there will soon be no more room for bodies at three cemeteries ? St. Joseph?s in Somerset, Holy Calvary in Pembroke and St. George?s ? belonging to the diocese.

?The graves will be available for our own people who want to buy them for family use,? Bishop Kurtz said. ?We have never developed the cemetery plot we have in St. George?s.?

The diocese will also need approval from the Corporation of St. George?s.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade has applied for planning approval for a new administration facility at the rear of Dunrossil House on Point Finger Road.

?Three of our ambulances are housed here at Point Finger Road but our largest ambulance must be housed in St. George?s,? executive director Jacqueline Browne said this week. ?We needed to upgrade our building.?

Ms Browne said the new facility would be a ?very simple structure? with two lecture rooms and two offices.
