20-year-old charged with possession of a loaded gun

A 20-year-old man was charged with three firearms-related offences yesterday in Magistrates? Court after a loaded gun allegedly fell out of his pocket following a scuffle with Police.

Jason Devon Dill, of Frog Lane, Devonshire, was not required to enter a plea to the four charges against him as they must be heard in Supreme Court.

Dill was charged with possessing a Talon nine-millimetre semi-automatic pistol ? while not the holder of a firearms licence ? in Pembroke on Friday.

He was also charged with possessing six rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition without a licence on the same date and time.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner also read charges to Dill of having a firearm in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse and with assaulting a Police officer while he was in execution of his duty.

Dill appeared in court accompanied by defence lawyer Charles Richardson.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines objected to bail for Dill saying his offences are of a serious nature but Mr. Richardson said he was making no application for bail at this time.

Mr. Warner remanded Dill for two weeks until papers from the DPP can be served to Dill?s lawyer.

Mr. Caines said all of the Prosecution?s papers will be served by May 23.
