Locking horns for charity

North Village and Social Club Over 40s will lock horns for charity at the National Sports Centre (NSC) tomorrow night in a match organisers plan to make an annual event.

The two clubs are raising funds to help offset medical expenses of former Bluebirds Mel Bowen and Webster Mills, with a portion of donations to also go to the family of late Social Club and Village player Wendell (Tendulkar) Lindsay who died recently.

"It's going to be a fun match and we are asking the public to come out and support this very worthy cause when we will be highlighting players of the past ¿ particularly those on Social Club who were league champions for three seasons running," said organiser Shervin Dill.

Each of this year's inaugural recipients will receive a quarter of donations while the remaining funds are to be deposited in a Benevolent Fund.

"This is the first match between the two teams in a Benevolent Fund for players who have become stricken with illness and we are looking to have this inaugural match to raise funds to assist players," Dill said.

Tomorrow night's match, which kicks off at 7 p.m., is to be preceded by an Under 13 youth match, also featuring Social Club and nearby rivals Village (6 p.m.), while other football legends are to be honored during the halftime interval.

Honorary Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president Charlie Marshall, Rex Osborne, Glyn Gilbert, former national team coach Roddy Burchall, Cal Simons, Dennis Wainwright, Kenny Perinchief, David Saul, Ray O'Leary, Estin Curtis and Stuart Crockwell will all officiate during the double header.

Immediately following the match a raffle will be held at Social Club where travel vouchers and various other prizes will go up for grabs.
