BBC staff stage sit-in
Staff at the Bermuda Broadcasting Company staged a ?sit-in? yesterday in a protest over wages.
Shop steward Wayne Lottimore said the action started at 9.30 a.m. and ran until 3.30 p.m.
Mr. Lottimore said wage concerns were one of the reasons for the sit-in, but it was also triggered by ?internal issues? regarding operations and staffing.
He said about 25 workers out of 33 were involved in the strike.
The union said the company continued to broadcast during the industrial action, and played music and used satellite news information to fill time. Regular DJs were not on air, said Mr. Lottimore.
He added after lengthy talks with management, chief executive Rick Richardson made a presentation to Bermuda Industrial Union members. Talks would continue, Mr. Lottimore said, and there was now a ?mood of understanding? between both parties.
Attempts to contact Mr. Richardson were unsuccessful.
