The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index yesterday rose 20.54 points to close at 2,316.24 as the Bank of Bermuda rose 50 cents to close at $40.50.

The bank dominated trading with 6,146 shares changing hands. Overall volume on the exchange was 6,626 shares worth a total of $257,737.50.

Bank of Butterfield shares rose 25 cents to close at $29.25 on volume of 250 shares and Devonshire Industries - owners of Bermuda Paint - jumped $1.50 or 20 percent to close at $9 on volume of 200 shares.
