Warwick bounce PHC out of three-way tie for first place
PHC were knocked out of a three-way tie for first place in the First Division Twenty20 on Sunday when they lost to neighbours Warwick by 39 runs at Southampton Oval.
Warwick, also in that three-way tie along with Western Stars, kept up their push for promotion with their fourth win, which keeps them level on 40 points with Stars who defeated Cleveland on the weekend.
Warwick scored 164 for eight in their 20 overs with captain Staphen Dill leading the way with 35 while Cory Burgess scored 32, Jamar Stovel 31 and Jahcobi Butterfield 28 not out.
Dev Hanuman, the PHC captain, led their bowling with four for 22 off four overs.
In reply, PHC could manage only 125 for eight, with Ori Wilson their high man with 40, which included six fours and a six. Jodi Maronie claimed two for 21 to lead the Warwick bowling while Dominic Sabir, Stovel and Josi Butterfield claimed a wicket each.
Bottom team Somerset Bridge picked up their first win when they beat Devonshire Rec by seven runs at Somerset Cricket Club.
Bridge scored 178 for three with Clarence Trott, batting at No 4, their high man with 82 not out. Trott smashes eight sixes and four fours. Opener Adrian Burrows added with 47 while Jason Smith scored 24 not out.
Devonshire Rec, fresh off victory over Tuff Dogs in the Central Counties Cup the day before, came agonisingly close to victory before reaching 171 for six when the overs ran out. Opener Drewonde Bascome was high man for them with 36, while Chris Dailey scored 32 and captain Alafia Henry 25 not out.
In the other match, Western Stars remain in first place on net run-rate after their 23-run win over Cleveland County at Sea Breeze Oval.
Tre Manders smashed six sixes and six fours in his top knock of 86 for Stars while captain Khiry Furbert scored 23. Mackih McGowan, claimed one for 19, Isiah Creighton one for 22 and Makai Young one for 32 in Cleveland’s bowling.
In reply, Cleveland put 141 for three on the board before the overs ran out, with opener Zeri Tomlinson leading their reply with a run-a -ball 65 that included five sixes and two fours, while Q’Shai Darrell scored 36 and McGowan 21 not out.
