A tour operator has launched a bid to renovate a historic building that has fallen into disrepair.

Ethos Bermuda has responded to a Request for Proposal from the Government to renovate Admiralty House in Spanish Point, Pembroke.

A message on the Ethos Bermuda Facebook page said: “We are very excited to be answering a request for proposal for this property. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

“We hope we can help preserve more our of national heritage locations.”

The group also posted footage of the property in its rundown state.

The RFP, issued by the Ministry of Public Works last week, advised that the property “was built of traditional Bermuda stone construction with timber flooring and roof members and extensive redevelopment works are required to have it restored”.

Ethos Bermuda said Admiralty House continued to be the home of the Royal Navy Commander-in-Chief of the North America and West Indies station until the service left Bermuda in 1951.

Dances continued to be held in the ballroom during the 1930s and ‘40s.

Video footage of the property can be viewed on the Ethos Bermuda Facebook page here.
