For the second holiday season running, a popular art gallery in the West End has packed up some of its wares and headed into Hamilton.

The Bermuda Arts Centre at Royal Naval Dockyard has opened a pop-up shop in Washington Mall, which will remain open until December 24.

Gallery administrator Heidi Cowen said Dockyard, in common with other island locales, turns into a “ghost town” during the off season.

She acknowledged that cruises are still arriving this month, but added: “As an art gallery that promotes local artists, our main support comes from local buyers, which leads us back to why we are moving a pop-up gallery to Hamilton.

“During the week everyone is working and we therefore rely on the weekends for our Christmas sales. However, there is so much going on during the weekends leading up to Christmas that this does not always happen, which led us to the thought, ‘if the people can't get to us, then let us go to them’.”

She added: “We have taken a little bit of everything that we have in the gallery — ceramics, jewellery, mixed media, Christmas decorations and ornaments, scarves, baskets and, of course, lots of art.

“The Arts Centre prides itself that if it wasn't created in Bermuda, we don't carry it. The shop is small but offers a large selection of paintings and as work is sold it is replaced, so the shop is for ever changing. “
