The date for a big-hearted chef’s last Christmas charity dinner for the underprivileged has been changed because of the risk of bad weather.Michiko Campbell, the creator of Chiko’s Smokey Rub, said the dinner will be held on December 22 from 3pm to 9pm.He explained that the dinner, which was scheduled to take place on December 23 from 5.30pm to 10pm, had to be moved because of predicted heavy rain.Mr Campbell said: “It’s just way too much rain and way too much wind to put up the tents, so we’re just going to put it to the day before.”He added: “I did check the weather for that day and the only thing is that it’s going to be cold, so people will need blazers and sweaters.“But we have the hot chocolate and all that stuff so we’re not really worried.”Mr Campbell said that the dinner was moved to an earlier time to allow for a better turnout of volunteer servers.He explained: “We had a couple of requests from some church members that want to volunteer, but didn’t want to come right after church.“It’s also easier for the old folks’ homes because we have to deliver to them first and they’d rather have it early than late.”The sous chef at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in Hamilton has organised the free holiday feast almost every year since 2015.He announced last month that this year’s event would be his last Christmas dinner before he moved the event to the summer.But it will still be held on its traditional spot on the western side of Albuoy’s Point next to the RBYC.
