Terron Webb is battling for a spot in the Nevis national team for their upcoming tournament in the Leeward Islands.

The PHC and Bermuda Under-19 leg spinner is among 36 players, including West Indies opening batsman Kieran Powell, to have been selected by the Nevis Cricket Association to take part in a series of trial matches

Training began today at ETW Park with the trial matches on January Saturday and Sunday and the following two weekends, with the Leeward Islands Three-Day Tournament to be hosted by St Kitts & Nevis from February 18 to March 4.

Webb, whose mother is Bermudian, moved to Nevis several years ago and first came to prominence for his talents as a calypso performer, earning recognition in 2020 from the St Kitts & Nevis House of Assembly.

He made a handful of appearances for PHC in the First Division last season.

Cal Waldron, the PHC coach and assistant to Niraj Odedra for the Bermuda national team, is thrilled at the latest development in the player’s burgeoning career.

“I am happy and ecstatic for Terron,” he said. “He is a student of the game who works hard at his craft and is always asking questions, seeking knowledge and willing to impart that information to his gameplan.

“I know he has worked hard. He has a very special skill set and takes it serious, so his growth spurt over the last three seasons has really been in the right direction.”

Waldron worked extensively with the 17-year-old on his bowling last season.

“He is looking to improve and be a better spinner,” he added. “This past season I got him using the new ball in the T20 format, so he’s getting the experience on the field in different formats of the game.

“I know he can do what he’s got to do.His frame of mind is good; he’s just got to produce the goods on the day.

“That’s nothing new to him, nothing hard to him. Just go out there and do what he’s got to do and I wish him well.”
