Reggie Lambe has shed light on his recent move from Stowmarket Town to the club’s Isthmian League North Division rivals AFC Sudbury.

Bermuda’s most capped player has cited the departure of Stowmarket manager Paul Musgrove and a desire for a fresh challenge among the reasons for swapping teams.

“With Muzzy leaving Stowmarket, I think for me it was just time to move on and have a different challenge,” Lambe told Suffolk News.

“Sudbury are doing well and they got in touch with me, and I think everything just came together. I’m happy to be here.”

Lambe is the latest former Stowmarket player to join Rick Andrews’ team behind the trio of Ollie Brown, Ben Hunter and Josh Mayhew.

The Bermuda midfielder swapped teams last Friday and made his debut 24 hours later in the league leaders’ 1-0 defeat at home to Lowestoft Town on his 32nd birthday.

“It was an unfortunate result in my first game,” he added. “But we move on and we’ll try to go back and put ourselves in a dominant position to win the league.”

That recent defeat snapped a ten-game winning streak for Sudbury, who head to Tilbury on Saturday and cling to a one-point lead at the summit.

“We are in a great position to actually win the league and, if that doesn’t happen, we can still make it to the play-offs,” he said.

“I think moving forward that they are trying to build a team to go up and go up again, so that’s something that I look forward to and something I am very keen to be on board with.”

Lambe was Stowmarket’s leading scorer with ten goals at the time of his departure and is now looking forward to capitalising on the chances his new team-mates are capable of creating in the attacking third.

“We definitely have players who can do things one-v-one and who can get the ball in the box,” he added.

“It will be good going forward and they can create stuff and I can try and get on the end of it as opposed to the other way round. I’m also happy to chip in with some assists as well.”

While Lambe is familiar with some of the faces at Mel Group Stadium, those he was not close with also influenced his decision to switch allegiances.

“Some of the boys who I hadn’t played with spoke to me and said that I would be a good fit for our team,” he said. “So it was very welcoming, and those kind of things swayed my decision to come.”

Lambe arrives with years of experience, which he is looking forward to sharing with the younger crop of players at the club.

“I think it will be good for me to be around and to see all the youths coming through and give them some important tips and help them to progress their career as well,” he added.

Lambe joined Stowmarket in 2020 from League One side Cambridge United and went on to score 20 goals in 65 appearances.

“It has been amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better club to come back into football with,” he said.

"I really enjoyed my time there and I just wish the club all the best in the future.

“They have good people there and good players who can keep the flow of the club going on the pitch as well."
