Art expert to give lecture on Royal Collection
The vast art collection inherited by the King upon his accession is to be discussed at an upcoming lecture at the Bermuda National Gallery.
The lecture will be led by Wolf Burchard, a former curatorial assistant of the Royal Collection, and will be held under the patronage of Rena Lalgie, the Governor.
It will take place at the gallery in City Hall on April 27, with a reception at 5.30pm followed by the talk at 6pm.
King Charles III will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
Peter Lapsley, executive director at BNG, said: “Upon his accession, the King inherited one of the most significant art collections in the world.
“This lecture seeks to provide an overview of the breadth and depth of the collection, highlighting in particular the patronage of Charles I, Charles II and of the new king who, as Prince of Wales, served as chairman of the Royal Collection and is a talented watercolourist in his own right.
“Wolf Burchard is associate curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, responsible for the museum’s British Galleries. He was curatorial assistant at the Royal Collection from 2009 to 2014 and co-curated the exhibition The First Georgians: Art and Monarchy, 1714 to 1760, shown at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace in 2014.”
Tickets for the event are $35 for BNG members and $50 for non-members.
