Fondest memories of this young artist’s mother abound, but above all it is her mother’s seer-like qualities that keep her going.

Heather Macdonald was speaking to The Royal Gazette about her mother Charlene Macdonald.

“What means the most to me about my mom is how she has always been supportive of me my entire life,” she said. “She loves me unconditionally and always gives me sage advice when I’m making tough decisions.”

When Miss Macdonald was growing up, her mother encouraged any hobbies she was interested in.

“My family always has had a keen interest in horticulture and flowers,” Miss Macdonald explained. “Every year my mom would give me pointers on flower arranging for the Agricultural Exhibition Competition, and often times I won ribbons. She has always taken the time to encourage me and instilled confidence in me at a young age.

“I can now look back at those times and understand how her encouragement and caring nature has made me a stronger person.”

For Mother’s Day, she plans to cook dinner for her, as she says: “I know she really appreciates that!”

If Miss Macdonald had to choose one piece of advice that stood out, she said she would have to say: “She always advised me to ‘treat others as you would want to be treated,’ which I think is a very good way to live your life.”
