A few spots still available in BIFF's summer film production camps
The Bermuda International Film Festival has a few openings left in two of its summer film production camps for seven to 16-year-olds. Those camps with spots remaining are the stage one special effects camp for kids ages seven to nine, to be held July 9-13, and the two-week stage three boot camp for teenagers 14 to 16 to be held July 16-20 and July 23-27.
The camps will be held at Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, Jubilee Road, Devonshire. This new arts facility is located at the junction of Jubilee Road and Parsons Road.
The camps are held under the umbrella of the BIFF Film Academy educational programme, presented by BIFF in conjunction with partners Butterfield Bank. All films made in the camps will be screened at the BIFF Kids Children’s Film Festival in October.
The stage one special effects camp will introduce students to the special effects process. Campers will learn how to create fake bruises and scars, how to create sound effects, how to make items magically appear and disappear by using simple in-camera effects, how to create stunts, and the use of miniature cityscapes for film. The camp will run Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The students will make a short film on the final day of the camp.
The stage three, boot camp will see each student will make his or her film during the 10-day camp. This camp immerses teens in the filmmaking process. Students will perform all filmmaking roles and each student will write and complete his/her own movie. Boot camp runs Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Jon Legere, who has a degree in video and sound from the State University of New York, worked in the multimedia area in New York, and now runs his own design studio, Lava Visual Boutique and the event company, Volcanic Productions. He will teach the special effects and boot camps.
The camps are priced at $250 per week. Application forms are available on the BIFF web site at www.biff.bm.
